The Power to Ask: What 20 Seminars in Nagaland Taught Us

What 20 seminars across Nagaland taught our team about classroom silence, the transition from memorization to curiosity, and building confident student voices.

Over the past four months, our team at instudia traveled across Nagaland, conducting more than 20 seminars with schools, colleges, and young learners. We met thousands of bright, energetic students full of dreams and talent.

Yet, as I stood in front of packed halls, one recurring moment stayed with me: the quiet pause when we opened the floor for questions.

Hands stayed down. Eyes looked away. The room fell silent.

In our culture, quietness in class is often seen as politeness or discipline. But real growth begins only when someone dares to break the silence and ask: "Why?" "How does that work?" "Can we do this differently?"

If we want our youth to lead, create, and build the future, curiosity must become our loudest strength.

02

The Foundation We Built Together

Nagaland's journey over the past few decades is nothing short of inspiring:

  • 1

A Giant Leap in Education: In 1971, our state literacy stood at just 34.45%. Today, we consistently track above 80%, with our vibrant towns reaching well into the 85 to 90% range.

  • 2

A Distinct Advantage: Our students naturally think, write, and express themselves in English with remarkable fluency, putting us in direct conversation with global opportunities.

We have built the schools, raised the literacy rates, and nurtured a generation of readers and thinkers. Now comes the next leap: turning that literacy into confident, independent problem-solving.

03

Why the Question Matters More Than the Answer

For decades, learning meant finding the right answer to pass a test. But today, the world's information sits right in our pockets. Facts, definitions, and formulas are readily available to anyone with a phone.

The real differentiator is no longer what you have memorized; it is the quality of questions you ask.

  • 1

Curiosity drives discovery: Great leaders, builders, and artists start with an unanswered question.

  • 2

Questions build confidence: The moment a student realizes there is no such thing as a "foolish" question, learning transforms from a chore into an adventure.

  • 3

Courage over silence: Raising a hand teaches young people that their voice matters in any room they enter.

04

Building a Culture of Curiosity

Our young people do not lack capability; they simply need the permission to be boldly curious.

  1. 1

In the Classroom: Let us celebrate the student who asks an unusual question just as much as the one who scores high on a written test.

  2. 2

At Home: Encourage conversations where young minds can challenge ideas, test theories, and explore new interests without fear of being judged.

  3. 3

Across Nagaland: Let us foster learning spaces where asking, experimenting, and trying again are the standard, not the exception.

05

The Road Ahead

The talent in our state is undeniable. The foundation is set. It is time for our students to raise their hands, ask fearlessly, and shape the road ahead.

If you are an educator, principal, or student organizer looking to bring practical, question-driven workshops to your campus, we would love to collaborate with your institution. Together, let us build classrooms where curiosity thrives.
