The Portfolio Paradox

"You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience." This is the classic paradox that traps most entry-level job seekers. The solution? Build your portfolio before anyone pays you to.

Strategy: Create, Don't Wait

You don't need a client to build a portfolio. Here's the framework we use at instudia:

  • Spec work — Design a logo or website for a famous brand as a personal exercise
  • Rebuild existing products — Recreate a website from scratch to practice your skills
  • Document your learning — A blog or social media presence showing your journey is itself a portfolio
  • Volunteer projects — Offer your skills to local NGOs, schools, or community groups
  • Course projects — Make every class project portfolio-quality from day one

Where to Host It

For designers: Behance or a simple custom website. For developers: GitHub + a deployed project on Netlify or Vercel. For accountants: A PDF case study showing a before/after of a client's books.

The format doesn't matter as much as the proof. Employers hire people who can show their work.

The instudia Approach

Every instudia course is structured so that by the end, you have 5–8 completed projects that are portfolio-ready. We review them with you and help you present them in a way that gets interviews.
